Expansion Plans Unveiled

The expansion covers 15 additional acres next to the current park grounds. Planned features include paved trails for walking and biking, an inclusive playground, picnic pavilions, and a community garden. Environmental work will plant native plants along the riverbank to prevent erosion and support local wildlife. The $2.8 million project draws funding from city bonds, state grants, and donations. Council members stressed the use of sustainable materials throughout construction.

Earlier studies confirmed the plan would cause little ecosystem disturbance. September hearings drew more than 200 residents who shared ideas on specific amenities and layout options.

Local residents voiced strong backing for the project due to better access to open space and chances for outdoor exercise.
